Nice to see the battenburg livery on the police Audi there.

Hong Kong is easily my favorite city in the world. If I didn’t absolutely despise the 16 hour flight to there from JFK, I doubt I would go anywhere else on vacation.

That old M-B is actually a V123 model and it came like that from the factory. After that M-B gave up on the idea of making roomy Lang versions for normal people. Wealthy people of course could still by S-class models but the extra length in those was quite short in those.

did u see an F150 or something like that? I’m guessing there are not there. It looks like vans are the only larger vehicles there

If it weren’t for all the sexpats/filth, HK would be a much better place.

I’m guessing the speed limit was painted up there in the 90s or earlier.

Pickup trucks are not common. Even if there are, they are all Isuzus.

This is the police! Step away from the Nathan Road. Step away from the Wanchai.

The city will entertain you for a few days, then it will quickly become tiring for dear suburbanites. People are oblivious, timid, rude, or all of them combined. But I suppose New York probably isn’t much better...
What HK does have over other cities, is a stunning natural setting on rocky islands and deep harbours. The hiking trails can get you nearly anywhere, and some of them can get crowded in good weather. Exploring nature here can last you weeks.

Did HK ever use English speed limits? My parents have only owned Japanese and German cars, and none of them had MPH gauges.

Wikipedia says they began the change to metric measurements in 1976.

I used to ride them on occasion, but I will not willingly take my son on one. They have the worst reputation on local roads.

Hmm. I’m probably too young to have been able to see any MPH measurements. By the mid-80s everything was already in km/h so this find surprised me. Amusingly, body weight is still in pounds and Chinese groceries are in catties.

I’ve spent most of my life living and working in New York and Philadelphia, so that doesn’t bother me at all.
The landscape definitely has a lot to do with why I like it so much, but I also just more generally like the feel and look of the city.
The worst thing I can say about Hong Kong is that my experience has been that it’s impossible to go at drinking in Kowloon without getting harassed by drug dealers/pimps. It’s not that I’m not used to be approached by drug dealers, it’s that they usually go away if you say you’re not interested, not follow you for blocks no matter how many times you tell them to fuck off.

Yeah, if you’re looking to drink, Lan Kwai Fong square in Central is a much cleaner and friendlier place (thus its popularity).
Not that I’ve ever done so, but I can imagine trying to have fun in Kowloon or Wanchai can be underwhelming. It’s lower-key for sure, but you have to know your places to avoid the slime.

I tend to prefer quieter and divier bars, especially when I’m in a place where I’m less likely to get robbed at gunpoint.
I never really bothered trying to find bars in Kowloon outside of Tsim Sha Tsui, but it has some nice places to drink. As a huge jazz fan, I’m really fond of Ned Kelly’s Last Stand, which is really tiny inside and has a great and friendly band.

The name sounds vaguely familiar. Is it in the Centennial Square garden with the large fountain, in East TST? Lots of bars there, and I have family living close by.

One thing I love about HK is all of the cool, forbidden JDM fruit on the roads. I spotted multiple Sientas, a Levorg, two R34 Skylines... I also spotted a Huracan Spyder. Oh, and so many Teslas...
Pics are on my camera and I'm too lazy
